AGING Food vouchers to be used at farm markets



The program targets low-income senior citizens.
MERCER, Pa. -- The Mercer County Area Agency on Aging Inc. is offering Farmers Market Nutrition Program food vouchers again this summer to older county residents.
The state program offers vouchers for $20 for single people or $40 for couples to be spent at selected farmers markets registered with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture.
To be eligible, participants must be at least age 60, live in Mercer County and not reside in a personal care, assisted-living or nursing-home facility.
A single person must have an income of less than $17,224, and a couple must have an income of less than $23,107.
The vouchers must be used by Oct. 31.
They are available, along with a list of markets, at the following locations:
UShenango Valley Center for Aging & amp; Geriatric Health, 220 N. Buhl Farm Drive, Hermitage: Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 3 p.m. (except July 7).
U Greenville Area Senior Service Center, 339 E. Jamestown Road: Thursdays (except July 29) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
UFredonia Presbyterian Church, 24 Water St.: July 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
UGrove City Senior Community Center, 301 S. Broad St.: Mondays and Wednesdays from 1 to 4 p.m. and Fridays from 9 to 11 a.m.
UMcQuiston Center by the Park, 29 Railroad St., Sandy Lake: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
UMercer County Area Agency on Aging, 133 N. Pitt St., Mercer: Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
