SANDLOTS Banna's pitching paces Livi Steel
Astro Falcons beat Koch Construction to pull within a half game of first place.
STRUTHERS -- Rick Banna scattered four hits as Livi Steel posted a 5-1 victory over Wharmby Sports Monday in Class B action at Cene Park.
Banna (3-1) had five strikeouts and walked six.
Mark Tanner had two hits while Manoli Pahoulis had a double, a single and four runs batted in for the winners (13-6).
Jake Gross had a single and a double for Wharmby (16-3). John Warren (1-1) took the loss. He went the distance, allowing three earned runs with one strikeout.
Astro Falcons 13,Koch Construction 3
The Astro Falcons blasted seven extra base hits as they moved to within a half game of first place.
Frank Turocy and Chad Baker had three hits each while Adam Wigley and Bill Christian had two hits apiece for the winners (16-4).
Baker had a triple and a double and added three runs batted in while Joe Kohler (1-1) earned the win in relief. He went three innings and allowed just one earned run.
Grant Sevek had two hits, while Matt Madrid added a double for Koch-Line Drive (13-6).
Rondinelli Tuxedo 9,Youngstown Propane 5
Rondinelli scored six times in the bottom of the fourth inning to snap Youngstown Propane's five-game winning streak.
Ryan Jones hit a two-run triple and Phil Williamson had a double in the six-run rally for Rondinelli (9-11). Jones, George Kovac and Cameron Cimino each had two hits.
Tom Clayton had a double and picked up the win, going 51/3 innings in relief. Dan Babyak came on in the sixth and picked up the save.
For Propane (8-11), Steve Lumpp had three hits, including a double, while Mike Evans drove in two runs with his two hits. Jake Zatchok (1-4) took the loss.
Mink Financial 3,Youngstown Express 2
Adam Keck hit a run-scoring double in the bottom of the fourth inning to break a 2-2 tie as Mink Financial (13-6) pulled into a three-way tie for third place with Koch/Line Drive and Livi Steel.
Mike Brown's two-run triple gave Mink a 2-0 lead in the first, but Express (1-18) tied the game with two unearned runs in the third.
Matt Weymer (4-1) pitched six innings to get the win, striking out five. Mike Swoboda pitched a perfect seventh with two strikeouts to earn his second save. Pat Smith suffered the loss despite allowing just three runs in six innings. He had four strikeouts.
Aaron Rudibaugh had two hits for the Express while Shawn McDonald had two hits for Mink.
Roth Brothers 6,Dave Sugar Excavating 3
Roth Brothers scored five times in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally past Dave Sugar Excavating (6-3).
Jeff Claar (2-2) pitched a complete game for Roth, striking out eight. Tim Grantz, Paul Kelmer and Justin Vrona had two hits each for Roth (3-16), with Kelmer hitting a two run double in the sixth innings rally.
For Sugar (4-15), Chris Aracich had two hits, while Kyran Gardner and Bob Melnek had back-to-back doubles in the second inning. Drew Hazel suffered his fourth loss, allowing five runs over 51/3 innings with two strikeouts.
Class AA
YOUNGSTOWN -- Action Sports split a doubleheader with the Youngstown Metros in Class AA League action at Pemberton-Donnell Park.
Action Sports scored the deciding run in the fifth inning to prevail 2-1 in the first game.
Ken Bielalc scattered five hits, striking out seven to pick up the win.
Higano Rivera doubled, stole a base and scored on a ground out for the winning run.
Dan Palombaro and Ryan Vaughn each had two hits as the Metros won the second game 6-3.
The Metros broke a 1-1 tie as they scored five runs in the fourth inning, which included a double by Sean Weyant.
