SOCCER Crew's 7-game unbeaten streak snapped in D.C. by United, 3-1

WASHINGTON (AP) -- D.C. United emphatically ended a four-hour scoring drought Saturday night with two goals from Alecko Eskandarian and one from Jaime Moreno in a 3-1 victory over the Columbus Crew.
United dominated from the opening whistle to end the Crew's seven-game unbeaten streak. Rookie Troy Perkins had three saves, but he lost his third shutout on Manny Lagos' goal in the 90th minute.
Freddy Adu, who played a full 90 minutes for the U.S. under-20 team against Brazil on Wednesday, was a second-half substitute for United for the second consecutive game.
The 15-year-old striker replaced Eskandarian in the 69th minute, and his one promising run was thwarted when three defenders converged on him near the top of the penalty area.
Two regulars absent
United played their best game of the season without regulars Bobby Convey and Earnie Stewart, who are with the U.S. national team for Sunday's World Cup qualifier against Grenada. United's best defenseman and usual team captain, Ryan Nelsen, sat out with a groin injury.
United's Dema Kovalenko started the assault early, hitting the left post in the third minute. Moreno scored just three minutes later, slotting in a cross from Ronald Cerritos after a nice run down the middle by Brian Carroll.
Moreno's goal ended a 271-minute dry spell for United, whose last goal was an own goal against New England on May 29. The last United player to put the ball in the net had been Joshua Gros on May 22 against Colorado, a 302-minute drought.
Eskandarian's goals were both blasts from about 25 yards in the 33rd and 45th minutes. Eskandarian's volley into the upper right corner of the net after a give-and-go with Moreno and Kovalenko made it 2-0, and his free kick from the top of the box found the same spot to put United ahead 3-0 at halftime.
Perkins, United's third-string goalkeeper at the start of the season, made a superb one-handed save on Lagos' header in the 28th minute. But Lagos found the net in the final minute of the game, converting a cross from Kyle Martino.
