PREP FOOTBALL South captures Classic



Ro Grigsby scored three touchdowns in Saturday's Ohio All-Star Classic.
COLUMBUS (AP) -- Ro Grigsby had three touchdown catches and Grant Gregory contributed scores passing and rushing to help the South beat the North 44-28 Saturday night in the 59th annual Ohio All-Star Classic.
Grigsby, a Kansas State signee from Clayton Northmont, caught 16- and 28-yard TD passes from Gregory and a 48-yarder from Nick Moore on an option pass -- all in the second quarter. He was named MVP of the game at Crew Stadium.
Gregory, an Indiana signee from Athens High School, completed 8 of 14 passes for 202 yards and had an 80-yard touchdown run.
Asante White, a Toledo Start product who hasn't selected a college, scored two touchdowns for the North on his three receptions. He caught a 63-yard TD pass from Clint Cochran in the second quarter and a 12-yard TD from Brian Hoyer in the third to pull the North within 30-28.
Erik Haw, an Ohio State signee from Columbus Independence, sealed the South's win with TD runs of 1 and 3 yards. Haw finished with 80 yards rushing on 13 carries.
The South led 30-21 at halftime. The team gained 220 yards on first downs in the opening half while the North managed only 94 yards on those plays.
Each team had a two-play scoring drive in the first half.
The North's quick drive came after Gregory's 80-yard TD run with 39 seconds left in the first quarter.
Fitch graduate
Austintown Fitch graduate Miles Williams, a Michigan State recruit, caught a 62-yard pass from Thom Abbott and Edwin Hood ran 11 yards for a touchdown on the next play to give the North a 14-10 lead.
The South took the lead for good two plays and seven seconds later. Gary Russell took a screen pass from Gregory 53 yards on first down, then Gregory threw a 16-yard TD pass to Grigsby to put the South ahead 17-14.
