WNBA ROUNDUP Saturday's games

Shock 84, Monarchs 74
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Swin Cash scored a career-high 29 points, helping the defending WNBA champion Detroit Shock beat the Sacramento Monarchs for their fifth straight win. A slim forward with the quickness of a guard, Cash scored on a variety of shots in the second half, when she had 17 points and the Shock (6-3) pulled away from struggling Sacramento (3-7). Cash, who has averaged 22 points during the winning streak, made 10-of-15 shots and converted 8-of-11 free throws for Detroit, which started the season 1-3. Deanna Nolan added 16 points for the Shock, who shot 50 percent. Cheryl Ford and Ruth Riley each scored eight points, and Iciss Tillis had seven. Tangela Smith scored a season-high 21 points for the Monarchs, who trailed by as many as 22 points and lost for the fourth time in five games and is 1-4 this year at home. Yolanda Griffith, who earlier in the day was named to the U.S. Olympic team, had 10 points and nine rebounds for Sacramento. Lady Grooms also scored 10 points and DeMya Walker had nine. In a fast-paced opening half, Cash scored 12 points and Nolan had 11, helping Detroit to a 38-34 lead. Smith scored 14 for Sacramento, which trailed by 10 points for much of the half.
