JOHN KOVACH | Colleges Rango earns softball honors at Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN -- Gina Rango has made school history at Bowling Green State University.
A sophomore third baseman and co-captain for the Bowling Green softball team this past season has been named to the Great Lakes All-Region first team for the second straight year.
That marked the first time in school history that a BGSU softball player has made all-region twice.
Rango, who has started all of Bowling Green's 117 games in her career, also set three single-season school records this year -- RBIs (42), home runs (9) and doubles (18) -- and tied the school career record for homers (14).
Rango, from Boardman High and North Lima, was one of only two Mid-American Conference players chosen to the first team, joining seven Big Ten picks and two Horizon League selections.
Led nine categories
Rango led the Falcons in nine statistical categories, the others being batting average (.372) hits (74), slugging percentage (.608), on-base percentage (.429), total bases (121) and game starts (64).
She helped Bowling Green to a 34-30 record and to the MAC Tournament championship for a berth in the NCAA Regional Tournament, where the Falcons were eliminated May 20 by two losses to Oregon State.
The daughter of Carl and Mona Rango, Gina was a four-time All-Ohio and All-Steel Valley Conference pick at Boardman, helping the Spartans to four SVC championships.
In her junior year, Boardman won the Division I state title after taking runner-up her sophomore season.
Another Reimold standout
BOWLING GREEN -- Another Reimold from Kennedy Catholic High in Hermitage is making it big in intercollegiate sports at Bowling Green.
Nolan Reimold, a sophomore right fielder for the Bowling Green baseball team this past season and the younger brother of basketball standout John Reimold, has been named to the American Baseball Coaches Association All-Mideast Region first team.
Nolan was one of 26 players named to the regional team, 10 of them coming from the MAC, nine from the Big Ten, five from the Big East, and two from the Horizon League.
He also was selected to the All-MAC first team.
A power hitter who finished the season on a 13-game hitting streak., Reimold led Bowling Green in 12 statistical categories, including batting average (.404) and slugging percentage (.749).
Reimold ranked No. 15 in the nation in slugging percentage, 31st in batting average, and 32nd in runs batted in with 1.21 per game for 57 total, helping the Falcons to a 28-19 record, including 13-11 in the MAC.
He had 14 doubles, 13 home runs and three triples. He started a team-high 46 games and had just one error defensively in 85 chances.
Reimold has the fifth-highest batting average in school history (.370) and is tied for fourth in single-season RBIs (57).
Brother set school record
His brother John, a 6-6 junior forward for the Falcons last season, was the team' second-leading scorer (15.1) and rebounder (5.0), and set a school record with 2.89 3-point goals per game.
In his second year as a starter after transferring from Loyola (Md.), John made 84 3-point goals last season -- the second most in school history.
He ranks second in school history for 3-point field percentage (42 percent) among players making 50 or more.
The brothers' parents are Mary and John Reimold.
