DOCTORS
George Washington Univ.
Steven J. Krohmer has received his doctor of medicine degree, with distinction, from the George Washington University in Washington D.C.
Dr. Krohmer was born in Youngstown and attended St. Christine and Boardman schools. He is the son of Helga Krohmer Goodrum of Olympia, Wash., and the late George R. Krohmer.
Dr. Krohmer received his undergraduate degree in biochemistry from the University of Texas. He will intern at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital for one year and then will attend Dartmouth University for his residency in interventional radiology.
He is married to the former Lori Gorniak and has a son.
OSU School of Medicine
Robert Alex Hirschl, son of Marsha and Larry Hirschl of Farmdale, formerly of Boardman, received his doctor of medicine degree earlier this month from Ohio State University School of Medicine.
Dr. Hirschl graduated from Boardman High School in 1995 and received his bachelor of science degree in chemistry from Youngstown State University in 2000. He will begin his residency as a neurosurgeon July 1 at Ohio State Medical Center.
Degree in dental medicine
Dr. Rhea Nicklow graduated from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., with a doctor of dental medicine degree.
Dr. Nicklow received a bachelor of science degree in biomedical engineering from Case Western Reserve University and a master of science degree in chemistry from Youngstown State University.
She makes her home in Plantation, Fla., with her husband, Brian Schmidt, who is a fourth-year student at Nova Southeastern University College of Dental Medicine. She will pursue a residency in advanced dentistry from Nova Southeastern University.
Dr. Nicklow is the daughter of Virginia Mannella and stepdaughter of H. Dennis Jones, both of Niles. Her grandparents are Nick and Gladys Mannella, also of Niles.
HONORS
Teacher of the year
Anthony J. Felt of Jacksonville, Fla., formerly of Youngstown, was selected teacher of the year at Parkwood Heights Elementary School of Duval County in Jacksonville.
He is the son of Renee DeCarlo Drentkiewicz and James Drentkiewicz, Mars, Pa., and Michael Felt of Hubbard and Port St. Lucie, Fla.
Felt was married Saturday to Janice Tobin of Williamsport, Pa., in Williamsport.
Award winner
Paul Elia of Rural/ Metro Ambulance received a Star of Life award last month in Washington D.C.
Elia of Struthers received the award during the 13th annual Stars of Life event hosted by the American Ambulance Association last month. More than 100 stars from 36 states were honored.
Elia has worked at Rural/Metro for the past 12 years. The award was given to Elia based on his service, loyalty and ethics.
"It's hard to talk about myself," he said. "I just try to do my job well. It's just the way I do things."
LAWYERS
Duquesne University
Bryan Curtis Brantley of Gypsy Lane, Youngstown, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gary L. Brantley, recently received his juris doctorate degree from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh.
He received his bachelor's degree in political science from Youngstown State University in 2001.
He is employed by McGuire Woods law firm in Pittsburgh in its commercial litigation practice group.
He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. William Wagner and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Brantley, all of Youngstown.
Case Western Reserve
Adrienne N. Cvetkovic, daughter of Gregory and Dr. Nikki Cvetkovic of Austintown, graduated cum laude and was granted her juris doctorate degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Law.
She was awarded with a recognition by the Order of Barristers, a national honor society, whose purpose is to encourage excellence in oral advocacy and in brief-writing. Members are selected for excellence in advocacy and for their total contribution to the law school's moot court and advocacy programs.
Cvetkovic received a bachelor's degree from Hiram College in 2001. She is a 1997 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School. She is employed by the Cleveland law firm Schneider, Smeltz, Ranney and LaFond.
