Store gets third location
BOARDMAN -- England Custom Furniture Direct opened a store in the Toledo area, which is its third location. The Boardman-based company also has stores in Boardman and Gaithersburg, Md. The company guarantees delivery of custom-made furniture in 21 days from the factories of England Furniture, a Tennessee-based subsidiary of La-Z-Boy.

GM overhauls operations
RUESSELSHEIM, Germany -- General Motors announced a major overhaul of its European operations today, designed to streamline the company by bringing its struggling units Adam Opel AG, Vauxhall Motors Ltd. and Saab Automobile AB under a single-management structure.
The company said its plans will speed decision making and increase efficiency. GM's European operations have been losing money since 1999.

United remains bankrupt
CHICAGO -- United Airlines' best hope to emerge from bankruptcy with strong financial backing was dashed by a government assistance panel, potentially setting the stage for further cuts and restructuring.
The Air Transportation Stabilization Board late Thursday denied United's request to guarantee $1.6 billion of a $2 billion private loan, leaving the status of the airline's makeover in question after 11/2 years in Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
