NOTEBOOK NASCAR

More penalties: Matt Kenseth and Kevin Harvick were each penalized by NASCAR a second time for bumping each other at the end of last weekend's Pocono 500. The drivers, who previously were docked 10 finishing positions in last Sunday's race, were each fined $25,000 and placed on probation until Aug. 11, a period covering the next seven Nextel Cup races. With Sunday's race about to end under caution, Harvick spun Kenseth into the infield. Kenseth then did the same to Harvick on the next lap. NASCAR officials summoned Kenseth, the 2003 series champion, and Harvick to a meeting after the race, then dropped them to 20th and 21st in scoring. Kenseth originally finished 10th, and Harvick 11th.
Waltrip to return to DEI: Michael Waltrip will return to Dale Earnhardt Inc.'s No. 15 Chevrolet for 2005, DEI director of motorsports Richie Gilmore confirmed, and NAPA has exercised its option as the sponsor for next year. Along with Waltrip and Dale Earnhardt Jr., John Andretti will race full time for DEI next season. Andretti will have a new sponsor in the No. 1 car. Andretti also will drive for DEI this season at Chicago and Daytona, and there's a possibility he'll race the rest of the season starting with the August race at Indianapolis. Pete Rondeau is moving from car chief for Waltrip to crew chief for Andretti. Former No. 1 crew chief Tony Gibson will move to crew chief for the expansion No. 11 DEI Busch car, which will be driven by Paul Menard.
NASCAR office in Canada: NASCAR has started a new business venture in Canada and will open an office in Toronto, adding to its marketing efforts north of the border. TSN, a division of Bell Glovemedia, will operate NASCAR Canada and have exclusive rights to market the American stock-car sport in Canada. TSN has televised NASCAR races since the network's inception in 1984 and recently signed a three-year agreement to air 16 Nextel Cup races each year through 2006.
Drink up: Bill Elliott, John Andretti and six other NASCAR Nextel Cup drivers will have a new sponsor for the July 3 Pepsi 400 -- Coca-Cola. Coke's newest soft drink, Coca-Cola C2, will also be the primary sponsor for Cup regulars Tony Stewart, Kevin Harvick, Jeff Burton, Kurt Busch and Ricky Rudd for the one race. Each car will each feature a unique take on the brand's signature red and white colors, and the drivers will wear Coca-Cola C2 firesuits.
