HOMICIDE TRIAL Jury viewing bar where man was shot dead

MERCER, Pa. -- The jury in the Michael A. Rogers homicide trial was to visit the scene of the crime today before the prosecution opened its case against him.
A jury of 12 people plus three alternates was seated Thursday, and attorneys for the prosecution and defense made their opening statements Thursday afternoon.
No testimony was taken, and the first order of business today was to take the jury to Styles Restaurant & amp; Lounge at 395 E. Budd St., Sharon, where Rogers, 30, of Sharon, is alleged to have shot Elliott Andre Campbell, 27, of Hermitage, once in the back June 16, 2003.
Campbell died of the wound, and Rogers fled the state. He was arrested in August in Mississippi and returned to Pennsylvania to face a charge of criminal homicide and carrying a firearm without a license.
An eyewitness in the case told authorities that Campbell knocked Rogers to the floor during a scuffle inside the bar and that Rogers pulled out a handgun as he got to his feet, firing a shot at Campbell as Campbell tried to run out the door.
Rogers ran to the door and the witness said she heard him fire a second shot as he exited the building.
The witness said that, moments later, she followed a trail of blood from near the doorway around the building to where Campbell was lying in the parking lot.
