TELEVISION Q & amp;A

Q. What did Tom Bergeron do before becoming host of "Hollywood Squares" and "America's Funniest Home Videos"? -- H., Las Vegas.
A. Bergeron started out as a teenage DJ on his hometown radio station in Haverhill, Mass. In the early 1980s he transitioned from late-night radio to TV, hosting a succession of local morning and kiddie shows. In 1993, he went national when he was tapped to host "Breakfast Time" on the just introduced FX cable station; the morning show later moved to the Fox broadcast network. Bergeron has been host of "Hollywood Squares" for six seasons and won a 2000 Daytime Emmy for outstanding game-show host. He and his wife, Lois, and their two children live in Connecticut.
Q. I enjoyed Damian Lewis as the Englishman, Soames, in "The Forsyte Saga" and as the American officer, Richard Winters, in "Band of Brothers." Both roles were portrayed with perfect accents. Please tell me -- what is his nationality? -- B.W., Johnstown, Pa.
A. The redheaded actor is British, born in St. John's Wood and reared in London. He's mentioned in interviews that his American accent was so convincing that his "Band of Brothers" castmates didn't believe he was an Englishman. Lewis has completed work on the movie "An Unfinished Life," a set-in-Wyoming drama starring Jennifer Lopez and Robert Redford. The movie is expected to be released at the end of the year.
