Summer Passport Contest
YOUNGSTOWN -- A Nintendo Game Cube and other prizes are up for grabs in Mahoning Cultural Collaborative's fourth annual Summer Passport Program Contest. Families who visit the area's cultural institutions and have their passport brochures stamped at each stop are eligible for the prize package, which will be awarded during the Canfield Fair.
Passports are available at these participating sites: Butler Institute of American Art; Mahoning Valley Historical Society Arms Museum and Archival Library; Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor; Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County Main Branch on Wick Avenue; Mill Creek MetroParks Fellows Riverside Gardens, Ford Nature Center and Lanterman's Mill; Western Reserve Historical Society's Loghurst historic house site in Canfield; Youngstown State University McDonough Museum of Art, Rose Melnick Medical Museum, Ward Beecher Planetarium; and YSU's SMARTS program office above Edward W. Powers Auditorium.
Pre-1840 re-enactment
EAST LIVERPOOL -- Watch as re-enactors demonstrate archery, tomahawk and knife-throwing and fire-starting at a pre-1840 Mountain Man Rendezvous and Craft Show at Beaver Creek State Park, 12021 Echo Dell Road. Hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 26 and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 27. Participants will wear historically authentic clothing and work without modern conveniences. Scented candles, wood crafts, ceramics and more will be for sale. Call (330) 385-3091.
