OSCAR'S Zoning issue is parked

Both owners remember earlier conversations differently.
BOARDMAN -- A parking dispute between a township businessman and the zoning inspector is no longer an issue.
Ross Scianna, owner of Oscar's and Antone's restaurants, wanted to expand the Oscar's location by knocking down the wall dividing Oscar's and Lady of America Fitness Center and create banquet facilities at Oscar's in the fitness center space. He said zoning officials informed him that there would not be enough available parking for the move.
Mary Cavalier, co-owner of the fitness center, however, said the fitness center has been in that location for 10 years and there are no plans to close or relocate the business. Both Scianna and Cavalier say they are confused by each other's comments.
Nothing official
Cavalier said she and Scianna had discussed Oscar's expanding into the fitness center space, but nothing official was ever agreed upon. She said the owners of Oscar's have been aggressively seeking the additional space, but rumors about the fitness center's closing have hurt the business.
"I just feel that they shouldn't be telling people that we are closing all the time. We are not going anywhere," she said.
Scianna remembers the conversations between the business owners differently. He said Lady of America owners came to him with a proposal to take over the lease on the additional space. He said the deal could not be completed because of the parking issue.
"I would never just make that up," he said.
