CLASS B Wharmby Sports' winning streak reaches 14 games
Astro Falcons defeated Roth by scoring in the bottom of the seventh inning.
STRUTHERS -- League-leading Wharmby Sports won its 14th straight game, as it defeated the Youngstown Express 10-0 in a Class B League game Wednesday at Cene Park.
J.C. McCoy had three hits, including a triple and a double, and drove in two runs for Wharmby (14-1). Jake Gross had a single and a double, and Pat Oman a triple to support the two-hit pitching of Mike Holmes (4-0). Holmes had four strikeouts.
Brian Banger had two singles for Express (1-14).
Astro Falcons 3, Roth Brothers 2
Josh McKenney raced home with the winning run on a throwing error with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Astro Falcons (11-4).
Bill Christian opened the inning with a walk and McKenney pinch ran for him. After a sacrifice bunt by Dom Marchionda, Dan Bertolini grounded out and a throw to third base was wild, allowing McKenney to score.
Bertolini (2-0) got the win in relief of Joe Irwin, who went the first 61/3 innings, allowing three hits and one earned run.
Jeff Claar (1-2) took the loss for Roth (2-13) as he went the distance, allowing one earned run.
Jared Bartholomew had a single and a triple for Astros.
Line Drive 17, Livi Steel 4
A nine-run second inning and a six-run third propelled Joe Koch Construction/Line Drive Academy (11-4).
Aaron Boris, Matt Madrid, and Nate Tacsik had three hits each, and Mike Eliseo and Justin Lemmo added two hits apiece for Koch/Line Drive.
Madrid picked up the win in relief of Luke Kershner.
For Livi Steel (9-6), Shawn Carr had a single and a double and Steve Orlosky had two singles.
Youngstown Propane 6,Dave Sugar Excavating 5
Youngstown Propane won its second straight game. Jake Zatchok (1-3) pitched a complete game; he struck out nine and walked four but did not allow an earned run.
Joe Marino added a single and double, and Craig Osborne a triple for Propane (5-10). Dan Deluca and Kyran Gardner had two hits each for Dave Sugar (4-11)
Mink Financial 6,Rondinelli Tuxedo 5
Ryan Myers led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a triple for Mink Financial. After the next two batters were walked intentionally, a walk to Mike Brown scored the game-winning run.
Brown, Dave Piersante and Ryan Hallapy all had two hits for Mink (11-4). Matt Weymer (3-1) was the winning pitcher.
For Rondinelli (7-8), John Grist and Dan Babyak had two hits each, while Phil Williamson had a two-run single.
