BERLIN CENTER -- State Route 534 is closed one mile south of U.S. Route 224 for emergency culvert repairs until further notice, the Ohio Department of Transportation announced Tuesday. The posted detour follows state Routes 165 and 45 to U.S. Route 224.
Austintown's growth
AUSTINTOWN -- The Austintown Growth Foundation has posted a strategic plan for the township's future on its Web site, www.austintowngrowth.com. The plan, which was posted on the site late last week in PDF format, includes recommendations on how to improve several sections of the township. It was created through an effort called 20/20 Austintown, which included several public meetings. Growth Foundation President Fred Owens said community members are working to move ahead with some recommendations in the plan.
Electronics recycling
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Green Team is offering Mahoning County residents a chance to dispose of old electronic devices.
The county's recycling division will have its second annual Electronics Recycling Drive from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 26 at the Canfield Fairgrounds.
The drive is open only to Mahoning County residents. Recyclers should enter the fairgrounds through Gate 9 on Route 46 and follow the signs. The items being accepted are computers and peripherals, monitors, printers and scanners, televisions, VCRs, DVD players, radios, small copiers and cell phones.
The Green Team will not accept microwave ovens and kitchen appliances, large copiers, and commercial or industrial volumes of items.
The Green Team asks that this schedule be observed: recyclers with last names beginning with the letters A-F should bring items from 9 to 11 a.m.; G-N from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and O-Z from 1 to 3 p.m.
HIPAA training session
YOUNGSTOWN -- A security training session for health-care workers who need to comply with the new Health Information Portability and Accountability Act is scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon June 23 at the Youngstown State University Metro College in Boardman.
"The Challenge of HIPAA Security: What you don't know will hurt you" will be led by Jim Mountain, a certified network engineer at Carter-Mountain Affiliates Inc. Mountain has helped more than 150 organizations become HIPAA-compliant by implementing improved security on computer networks.
The workshop is designed for management teams and information technology staff at health care organizations subject to HIPAA regulations, including those providing behavioral health services.
The class is co-sponsored by the Eastern Ohio Health Education Center and Northeast Ohio HealthForce. Registration fee is $39. Registration is limited and must be received by Friday. Call (330) 629-6376.
Credit card theft
CAMPBELL-- Police are investigating the theft of a Campbell woman's credit card account, which was used for unauthorized DVD purchases May 28-June 12.
A 54-year-old city woman contacted police after noticing a $1,000 charge to her credit card account for various DVDs through a DVD club.
According to the report, the woman said she is not a member of the DVD club and reported the charges to the credit card company. The account was closed, and further charges from the DVD club were blocked.
Spraying for mosquitoes
MINERAL RIDGE -- Weathersfield Township will spray for mosquitoes Monday, with a rain date of Tuesday.
Anyone with breathing problems should stay indoors during spraying, and all food and pets should be taken inside.
Blood drive is canceled
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- A blood drive at Shenango Valley Mall Community Room, 3303 E. State St., previously scheduled for Friday from noon-6 p.m. has been canceled.
