AMANDA, Ohio (AP) -- The son of a farmer and local school board president shot to death on his farm has been charged with murder, authorities said Tuesday.
Randy Miller, 47, a Democratic candidate for Fairfield County commissioner, was killed Monday evening outside a barn on his property.
Early Tuesday, authorities arrested Miller's 19-year-old son, Randall Miller Jr., after cornering him in a field in neighboring Pickaway County, about 10 miles west of the farm.
County Prosecutor David Landefeld said the younger Miller has been charged with aggravated murder and murder, both with gun specifications. Randall Miller Jr., who was being held in the county jail, was to be arraigned Tuesday afternoon.
Landefeld said prosecutors plan to present the case to a grand jury Friday. He declined to discuss a potential motive for the shooting.
Miller, president of the Amanda-Clearcreek Board of Education, was running for commissioner Nov. 2 against Republican incumbent Judy Shupe. She defeated Miller for the seat in 2000.

Fairfield County Sheriff Dave Phalen said Miller was shot more than once. The sheriff wouldn't say whether there were witnesses.
Amanda-Clearcreek Superintendent J.B. Dick said the slaying was a shock.
"Randy was quite the jokester and jovial guy, but he took this job very seriously. He had a tremendous amount of passion for the role as a board member," Dick said.
Randall Miller Jr. was released from the Pickaway County jail on June 3 after serving a 60-day sentence for theft, said Pickaway County Sheriff Dwight Radcliff.
Dale Graham, chairman of the Fairfield County Democratic Party, called Miller's death a blow to the community.
"He was organizing his campaign and getting everything ready and set to go," said Graham, a retired teacher from Lancaster.
"Once you met him, you liked him. He was that kind of guy. All you had to do was talk to him once, and his smile and mannerism would win you over real fast."
Amanda is 27 miles southeast of Columbus.
