HUBBARD -- The Hubbard board of education will conduct a public hearing on the proposed 2005 general fund budget for the Hubbard Public Library at 5:30 p.m. June 28 in the media center of the high school, 350 Hall Ave.
State law requires the library to present its budget through the school district because the district is the library's taxing authority.
The board will then meet in executive session at 5:45 p.m., followed by the regular meeting at 7 p.m.
The board also will meet in executive session at 5:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday in the superintendent's office, 150 Hall Ave. No action will be taken at either session.
McDonald pool program
McDONALD -- McDonald Village Recreation Department's joint venture with the school district, the Warm Water Pool Program, is being conducted from 9:30-10:30 a.m. every Monday and Wednesday at the high school pool.
The program is designed for adults 18 and older, and costs $3 a class.
Residents can take part when they want. The exercise program is done in the pool, with the water heated, and is designed for those with arthritis or muscle aches. Depending on the response of the program, it may be extended past summer.
HELP attorney will speak
HUBBARD -- The attorney representing Hubbard Environmental and Land Preservation will speak at the group's next meeting.
Atty. Robert Karl of the firm Ulmer & amp; Berne in Columbus will present information about construction of a proposed landfill in Hubbard Township at 7 p.m. June 23 in Hubbard City Council chambers.
The meeting is open to the public.
HELP is conducting a door-to-door fund-raising campaign, with more than $6,000 raised to date. The group's goal is to raise $100,000 to cover legal representation.
HELP is a nonprofit organization. Donations can be sent to P.O. Box 14, Hubbard 44425.

Special session planned
NILES -- The board of education will meet in special session at 7 p.m. Thursday at the administration building, 100 West St., to discuss personnel and negotiations.
Spraying for mosquitoes
MINERAL RIDGE -- Weathersfield Township will spray for mosquitoes Monday, with a rain date of Tuesday.
Anyone with breathing problems should stay indoors during spraying, and all food and pets should be taken inside.
Street to be closed
MINERAL RIDGE -- Broadway Street in Weathersfield Township will be closed today through Friday from Heaton-Chute Road to Harrison Street for a pipe replacement.
Pulp and pop culture
SHARON, Pa. -- "The Shadow Knows: A History of Pulp and Pop Culture" will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the Shenango Valley Community Library, East State Street at Sharpsville Avenue.
Robert Paulson will present a history of "The Shadow" and other pulp notables and show how the dime-novel era continues to influence our culture today.
The program is free.
Drug, weapon charges
FARRELL, Pa. -- Police reported that a man who appeared to be hiding in front of Broadway Storage at 940 Broadway Ave. had alcohol, drugs and some prohibited, potential weapons in his possession.
Police spotted John M. McGowan, 19, of Bedford Road, Masury, in front of the business around 2:40 a.m. Friday.
He was carrying a case of beer and had brass knuckles and a switchblade knife, police said, adding that they also found numerous prescription pills in a plastic bag in his possession.
He was arraigned on charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance, possession of prohibited offensive weapons, underage drinking and public drunkenness and remained in Mercer County jail today.
