South Side teen faces charges after chase
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 14-year-old South Side teen faces resisting arrest and receiving stolen property charges after he jumped out of a stolen car and ran from police at about 8:40 p.m. Monday.
Two officers in a cruiser attempted a traffic stop on East Florida Avenue near Southern Boulevard after they saw a Buick with heavy front-end damage leaking antifreeze, police reports show. Two males ran from the auto and officers chased one boy in the cruiser, telling him to stop because he was under arrest.
The officers, with assistance from two others, caught the 14-year-old boy in the middle of Market Street after a foot chase and struggle, reports show. Two officers damaged their uniforms during the foot pursuit.
The Buick, which had been stolen from Teenie's Tavern on South Avenue, had no keys and a damaged steering column, police said. The teen said he was not driving the car but did not know the name of the 12-year-old boy driving. Police said they believed the 14-year-old boy was the driver.
