Man is injured after police chase

AUSTINTOWN -- A Youngstown man was in critical condition this morning in St. Elizabeth Health Center with injuries he sustained when he was thrown from a stolen car as it rolled over.
Police said they were chasing the car when it rolled.
Shane Lowther, 18, of Bouquet Avenue will be charged with receiving stolen property and fleeing and eluding if he recovers, police said.
Reports state that about 5 a.m., Niles police called Austintown police and said a man later identified as Lowther was at the Country Fair gas station on state Route 46 near Interstate 80 filling up a car that had been reported stolen from Niles. Niles police said they had lost the stolen car in a previous chase.
Lowther was pulling away from the gas station when Austintown police arrived, reports state. Police said they chased him onto westbound Interstate 80, where he wove in and out of traffic at a high speed.
Officers said that as they approached the Meander Reservoir bridge, Lowther lost control of the car and drove off the left side of the interstate. The car rolled over as it left the interstate and Lowther was thrown about 50 feet, reports state. Police called an ambulance, which took Lowther to the hospital.
