STRUTHERS -- The city was expected to learn today what it will cost to repair a sidewalk, curb and new "Welcome to Struthers" sign damaged when a tractor-trailer lost its load just after 8 a.m. Monday.
According to police, the truck, owned by Charter Express in Tallmadge, was traveling north on South Bridge Street after picking up a load at Lally Pipe. As the truck turned onto State Street, police said, the load spilled. State Street was closed for about two hours.
The driver, Richard C. Reagan, 26, of Ravenna, was charged with having an unsecured load. No injuries were reported.
Items taken from school
YOUNGSTOWN -- A television, two VCR-DVD players and two computer systems with printers were stolen from the Legacy Academy on Oak Hill Avenue, police said.
An employee said two of the school's modules were broken into sometime between 10 p.m. Sunday and 8 a.m. Monday, police reports show. He also told officers that it was the second day in a row the modules had been broken into.
Man attacked at door
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 33-year-old Trussit Avenue man has told police he was shot at after three gun-wielding men attacked him as he tried to enter his North Side home at about 11:30 p.m. Monday.
The man said three men rushed to his porch as he tried to enter his front door, with one putting a semi-automatic handgun to his face and ordering him to open the door, police reports show. He wrestled with the man as the two others, both carrying revolvers, grabbed at his pockets. He said two of the men shot at him before running away.
Woman's purse stolen
YOUNGSTOWN -- A South Side woman was hit in the head by a man who stole her purse as she stood on her porch early Monday, police reports show.
The Cooper Street woman, 43, told officers she left the house about 5:20 a.m., believed she forgot something and turned to go back inside when she was hit in the left side of the head and pulled to the porch floor by a man stealing her purse.
Charged with menacing
STRUTHERS -- A Niles woman arrested on a warrant Sunday evening for failing to appear on a traffic violation was charged with aggravated menacing after police said she threatened an officer who was releasing her after her appearance in municipal court Monday.
According to a police report, Karen S. Halliday, 46, of Seneca Street, Niles, told the officer that she would have used her ring, which had a sharp protrusion and was turned to the inside of her hand to be used as a weapon, to stick an officer if he had entered the cell range. Halliday was irritated because officers had ordered her to be quiet.
After being arraigned on the menacing charge, Halliday was released on her own recognizance. Her trial is set for Aug. 9.
Corsairs at air show
AKRON -- "Ohio's Most Exciting Air Show" will sponsor a "Corsair Homecoming" Saturday and Sunday at Akron Fulton Airport.
The event will feature FG-1D and F-2G Corsairs manufactured at Goodyear during World War II. Organizers of the event from the MAPS Air Museum will also honor all of those pilots, mechanics, designers and builders who worked with the planes, at a ceremony during the weekend.
