Brown pleads guilty to shoving his wife
Brown pleads guiltyto shoving his wife
James Brown pleaded guilty Monday to a charge of criminal domestic violence in an Aiken County, S.C., court for shoving his wife, Tomie Rae, during a January quarrel.
The plea agreement saved him from jail. The 71-year-old Godfather of Soul had said he would fight the charge, which stemmed from an argument he had with Rae in their home in Beech Island, S.C., during which he reportedly pushed her to the floor, injuring her right arm and hip. Instead, he forfeited his $1,087 bond and, according to Aiken County assistant solicitor Anthony Odom, "basically, he says, 'I give up.'"
Odom said Brown's bond covers the fine for the charge and there will be no jail time. The musician was facing a maximum sentence of 30 days in jail and a $500 fine.
'Croc Hunter' in troubleover Antarctic swim
That "Crocodile Hunter" guy is in trouble again.
Steve Irwin, the bonehead who ticked off folks in January by holding his infant son in one arm while feeding a croc with the other, has peeved Australian environmental authorities. They're investigating allegations that he broke regulations by getting too close to wildlife in the Antarctic.
He allegedly swam with two whales in the ocean and got face to face with penguins and seals, no doubt traumatizing them for life. He said his dry suit ripped during the swim -- done for his show -- and he climbed onto a nearby iceberg.
'Friends' co-star givesbirth to daughter
LOS ANGELES -- Courteney Cox Arquette has a new friend: a baby girl named Coco, a spokeswoman for the couple said Monday.
The "Friends" co-star and her husband, actor David Arquette, became parents Sunday morning, said the spokeswoman for BWR Public Relations, which represents both.
"Everyone's happy and healthy, and that's what I have," their representative told The Associated Press.
The actress, who turns 40 today, gave birth about a week before her scheduled delivery date, according to People magazine. The couple's spokeswoman declined to confirm that information.
Cox Arquette, whose "Friends" TV character struggled to have a child, has disclosed that in real life she suffered several miscarriages before her successful pregnancy.
"I get pregnant pretty easily, but I have a hard time keeping them," she said last October, revealing that she and her husband had decided to conceive by in-vitro fertilization.
The couple married in June 1999.
McCartney forbids crewto eat meat during tour
OSLO, Norway -- Paul McCartney is performing without Wings. Or thighs. Or drumsticks.
Crew members on the set of the singer's concert are up in arms because the staunch vegetarian has banned the eating of meat by anyone working on the tour, reports MSNBC.com.
"It's completely crazy," one worker in Oslo, where the former Beatle was to perform Monday night, told the paper Aftenposten. "We're supposed to work from 8 till 8 each day, and aren't served anything but salad and vegetarian food. I can't live without meat doing this kind of work, and will defy the ban and bring my own lunch packet with meat."
According to another local report, the crew is also forbidden from wearing leather belts or shoes.
