Youngstown man faces charges of burglary, assault
YOUNGSTOWN -- A city man was charged with assault after leading police on a foot chase early Sunday.
James A. Kovach, 50, of Benita Avenue, was charged with burglary, assault on a police officer, aggravated menacing and resisting arrest.
A woman who lives at 448 Fairgreen Ave. said Kovach entered her home uninvited about 12:40 a.m. and refused to leave. Her boyfriend forced him from the residence.
Police said Kovach returned while they were taking the report from the woman in their cruiser, but fled when police ordered him to stop. Officers said they followed Kovach to the back yard of 454 Fairgreen, where they handcuffed him.
While police were returning Kovach to the cruiser, he pushed one officer and struck another, trying to push him over a porch railing, officers said. Police said Kovach also spit on and threatened to kill one of the officers.
