Autopsy verifies drowning
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- An autopsy has confirmed that Nathaniel Michael McCoy, 16, of Philadelphia drowned.
Pennsylvania State Police said toxicology reports are still pending from Friday's autopsy. Police said they are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the death. McCoy died Wednesday while swimming with four other juveniles and an adult.
McCoy, a resident of George Junior Republic, a juvenile offender institution in Grove City, apparently became separated from the group and was caught in the current of the Slippery Rock Creek near Kennedy Mills Bridge, police said.
His body was found at 3:30 p.m. Thursday about 40 feet downstream.
Sewer project meeting
NEW SPRINGFIELD -- A meeting to update progress on the Petersburg sewer project has been set for 6:30 p.m June 22 at the Petersburg Fire Station on state Route 170, Springfield Township trustees announced. Attending the meeting will be the Mahoning County Sanitary Engineer, and representatives from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Mahoning County Board of Health, and URS Engineers.
Columbia Street parking
LEETONIA -- Contractors will be paving state Route 344 (Columbia Street in the village) this week. Village Administrator Gary Phillips said motorists should not park on Columbia Street from Wednesday through Friday to permit the paving project to be completed without interference from parked vehicles.
YSU student trustee
YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown State University finance major Paul L. Walker of Poland has been appointed to serve as a student trustee on the YSU Board of Trustees.
The appointment, announced last week by Gov. Bob Taft, is for a term ending May 1, 2006.
Walker replaces recent graduate Matthew Pastier, whose term expired this year. Walker is an honor student, a member of the Student Government Association and a tutor for the YSU Center for Student Progress.
