CLASS B Banna boosts Livi past Propane, 6-3
Wharmby Sports swept a doubleheader against Dave Sugar.
STRUTHERS -- Rick Banna pitched a complete game as Livi Steel defeated Youngstown Propane 6-3 Saturday in Class B Baseball League action at Cene Park.
Banna (2-0) had nine strikeouts and walked just two for Livi (8-5).
Brock Stevens had two hits, including a double, for Livi, while Craig Osborne had a double and a single. Chris Norris had two hits for Propane (3-9). Jake Zatchok (0-2) struck out three for Propane.
Wharmby 13, Dave Sugar 7 Wharmby 11, Dave Sugar 0
League-leading Wharmby Sports (12-1) won two games from Dave Sugar to stretch its winning streak to 12.
In a game that was suspended from June 1, an eight-run fifth inning lifted Wharmby to a 13-7 come-from-behind win.
Then a six-run second inning was the big blow in an 11-0 shutout.
John Warren had four hits in the opener and Andy Chrobak added three, while in the second game Chrobak pitched a three-hitter. He had six strikeouts.
Jake Gross had two hits in each game for Wharmby.
Bob Melnek (0-3) took the loss in the nightcap while Joel Imler had a double in the opener for Dave Sugar (3-9).
Roth Bros. 4, Express 2
Roth Brothers scored four unearned runs and won their second game of the season.
Luke Summer (1-2) pitched a three-hitter for Roth (2-9). Summer walked three and had 10 strikeouts.
Ben Mackall had two hits for Roth.
Pat Smith had a solo home run in the sixth inning and Steve Stenglein added a double for Youngstown Express (0-11).
Rondinelli 5, Koch/Line Drive 3
Behind the pitching of Cliff Panezich and Doug Brown, Rondinelli improved to 6-5.
Jon Grist had three hits and Phil Williamson two for Rondinelli, which also got doubles from Cameron Cimino and Kevin Drummond.
For Line Drive, Kevin Sikora (1-1) had seven strikeouts and walked two.
Mike Eliseo had a double and a single while Nate Tacsak added a double for Koch/Line Drive.
Mink Financial 6, Astro Falcons 5
Dave Piersante drove in the game winning run with a single in the bottom of the sixth inning as Mink Financial improved to 8-4.
The loss dropped the second-place Astros to 10-3.
Jeremy Hartman got the win in relief for Mink, going two scoreless innings with four strikeouts. Piersante had two hits while Mike Brown had a double for Mink.
For Falcons, Frank Turocy had three hits, two of them doubles, but suffered the loss in relief. Adam Wigley had a triple for the losers.
