RENOVATION School board awards contracts for projects

The district received 23 bids on the McKinley projects.
LISBON -- The Lisbon Board of Education awarded contracts totaling more than $2.9 million for Ohio Schools Facilities Commission projects at McKinley Elementary.
Additions and renovations are planned at McKinley, and construction is expected to begin soon now that school is out.
The board awarded contracts Friday to DeSalvo Co. of Hubbard for general trades, $1.238 million; Prout Boiler of Youngstown for plumbing, $112,900, and $774,000 for mechanical-heating, ventillation and air conditioning; Enertech of Youngstown for electrical, $515,113; and SA Communale, city unidentified, $162,600 for fire protection.
Clerk-treasurer Cynthia Altomare said since the overall base bids came in less than projected by OSFC construction estimates, the district was able to make awards to some companies for additional work.
The board approved alternate awards to DeSalvo for $80,800; Prout for plumbing, $30,900, and $8,100 for mechanical; and Enertech for $6,042.
The district received a total of 23 bids for the McKinley project. They were reviewed by Ben Pintabona of R.P. Carbone, the Cleveland-based firm that is serving as project construction manager.
Addition
In other matters, the board authorized Altomare to advertise for bids for an OSFC addition project at David Anderson High School, pending review and approval of cost estimates by the Carbone firm.
The district's share of the money for the school projects is coming from a 2.89-mill bond issue. The OSFC is contributing more than $12 million.
