Ohio Edison customers lose electricity

Roughly 7,000 Ohio Edison customers in Boardman lost power around noon Thursday after a problem at the Clifton substation in the vicinity of Shields Road and Mill Creek Park in Boardman Township, said Paul Harkey, OE spokesman.
Harkey said power was restored to 5,000 customers by 1 p.m. and by 1:50 p.m. to the remaining 2,000. The outage was not load-related but may have been caused by recent storms, he said. While the substation switch is repaired, a portable substation will be used, he said.
A second power outage affected 4,290 customers in North Lima, Petersburg, New Middletown and Columbiana at 7:17 p.m.
An electrical fault in a transmission line was caused by a tree that made contact with a 69,000-volt line, Harkey reported.
Power was restored to customers in North Lima and Petersburg at 7:56 p.m. and to other affected areas at 8:21 p.m. after OE employees isolated the problem and rerouted power, he added.
