Man charged in sex crime won't remain free

PITTSBURGH (AP) -- A federal magistrate reversed her decision to allow a man to remain free while he awaits trial on charges that he arranged to have sex with a 2-year-old.
The parents of Bernie Sherry, 25, of Bethel Park, had told U.S. Magistrate Judge Amy Hay that they would watch their son while he awaited trial, but told her that complaints by neighbors led them to withdraw the offer.
Sherry is charged with trying to arrange sex with the girl through the girl's mother, who lived in Reading.
An FBI agent testified this week that Sherry kept a journal under his bed with detailed records of young girls in the neighborhood. The journal had one entry called, "Plans for Operation Young."
He also faces charges of receipt and possession of child pornography.
The woman who allegedly arranged for a meeting between Sherry and her daughter has not been identified and remains in federal custody. FBI agents are trying to track down other men who went to her Reading home for sex with her daughter.
