LIBERTY -- Liberty Presbyterian Church honored William Hunt and Jean Margala as their Man and Woman of the Year at the annual family dinner Sunday.Hunt has held several positions in his 51 years as a church member including elder, trustee and assistant Sunday school superintendent. He has volunteered at the Eastminster Presbytery's Joseph Badger Meadows Camp and Conference Center. Hunt, who is a retired research and leadership engineer from Aerocorp Corp., is married to Hazel Hunt.
Margala, a church trustee and a member of the outreach committee, serves on two 200th anniversary planning committees. She also is a key member of the executive anniversary committee and chairperson of the research project committee. In the community, she is treasurer of the Liberty Historical Society and volunteers with Boy Scouts of America.
27th anniversary
YOUNGSTOWN -- Canaan Missionary Baptist Church, 917 Shehy St., will observe its 27th church anniversary at 4 p.m. Sunday.The Rev. Raymond Mason and the congregation of the New Horizon Missionary Baptist Church of Massillon will be special guests.
Missionary trip set
EAST PALESTINE -- Steven T. Herron, a junior at East Palestine High School and the Columbiana Career and Technical Center, will be part of a missions team to the Island of Rotan, Honduras, from June 26 to July 4. The mission team from The Lord's House of Prayer Church will work with Child Sponsorship International, a nondenominational Christian mission organization. Praise music concert
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Berean Christian Conference is sponsoring an evening of musical praise by the Jason Tucker Band from First Presbyterian Church in Ambler, Pa., at 6:30 p.m. July 7 in the Fine Arts Hall at Grove City College. The event is free. No advance tickets or reservations are needed. The BCC is an interdenominational gathering of Christians that meets annually at the college. This is its 55th year.
Hand drumming
VILLA MARIA, Pa. -- EverGreen will present "Fun-damentals of Hand Drumming" facilitated by Paul DiFranco and Dan and Pam Susany at the Woods Pavilion at Villa Maria Community Center from 1 to 4 p.m. June 26. The event will emphasize the healing and spiritual aspects of drumming, music and sound. Beginners are welcome, and people may bring rhythm instruments. The cost is $30. Register by Friday. Feast bonfire
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Hispanic ministry of St. Patrick Parish, 1420 Oak Hill Ave., will have its second annual St. John the Baptist bonfire at 6:30 p.m. June 24. The feast of St. John the Baptist is celebrated in many Spanish-speaking countries as well as Ireland, France and Canada.
There will be a brief prayer service and the burning of worn-out sacramental items, such as broken rosaries or worn-out prayer cards or Bibles. The festival will end with refreshments, music, activities and a cookout with U.S. and Puerto Rican food. Call (330) 743-1109.
