Trumbull county commissioners OK tax abatement

WARREN -- Trumbull County commissioners approved a 10-year, 75-percent tax abatement on personal property investments for a new Niles business.
The abatement is for BRT Extrusions. Before commissioners gave their approval Thursday, there was a hearing on the abatement.
Commissioners noted that Niles City Council already had approved the tax relief plan.
"This a something really good because it's one of the first new businesses we have had," said Commissioner Jim Tsagaris. "We are very glad to have them here."
The company will open operation in Niles Commerce Park, county officials said.
Roy E. Smith, company president, could not be reached to comment.
Mark Zigmont, who is in charge of tax abatements for the county planning commission, said the company works with aluminum products.
Zigmont noted that BRT Extrusions also plans to invest about $20,000 on improvements to a building and to hire 25 people in the first year, and possibly double or triple that number in the next few years.
The planning commission stated that the company hopes to have 45 employees on board within one year.
In other matters, commissioners also voted to have their July 14 regular weekly meeting at the Trumbull County Fair. The meeting will be at 10:30 a.m.
Anyone interested in attending that meeting should enter through Gate C, which is off Everett-Hull Road, Bazetta Township, commissioners said.
