ON THE SIDE. . .
ON THE SIDE. . .
This and that from the world of Valley politics.
RIB TICKLER: Few press releases made me laugh harder than one recently sent from state Sen. Marc Dann of Liberty. Dann called a press conference at the Niles Weight Watchers office to tout a "cut the fat" campaign with Trumbull County Commissioner Dan Polivka. Instead of cutting the fat out of government, they're cutting it out of themselves. They announced a contest to see who could lose the most weight over the summer. The one who loses fewer pounds will give $250 to the winner's favorite charity.
An optimist would say this will encourage others to lose weight, or the politicians, both running this year, are just having some fun. I've never been accused of being an optimist. To me, it looks like an attempt to grab attention. I skipped the "cut the fat" event. But I guess the joke is on me because I still wrote about it.
Home, sweet, home: Capri Cafaro, the Democrats' 14th Congressional District nominee, now lives in the district. Cafaro, part of one of the Mahoning Valley's wealthiest and most well-known families, moved to Hunting Valley in Cuyahoga County from her parent's 19-acre estate in Liberty, which is valued at $1,184,700 by Trumbull County. The 800 or so people living in Hunting Valley have an annual median income of $150,000, and the community's average home sale price is $1,164,333, according to the Travel Cleveland Web site. Cafaro is renting, but she should feel right at home.
