MERCER COUNTY Sharon council to choose treasurer from pool of 3
SHARON, Pa. -- City council will have only three candidates to consider for the vacant post of city treasurer.
Treasurer Richard Fragle, re-elected to a second term of office last year, died of cancer May 18.
Pennsylvania law gives city council 30 days to fill that vacancy or the appointment gets handed over to Mercer County Common Pleas Court.
Council announced May 26 that it would accept letters of interest in the appointment until 5 p.m. Thursday, and Fred Hoffman, council president, said today that only three people have applied.
They are: Diane Thut of Service Avenue, Fragle's deputy treasurer; James Wolf of Case Avenue, retiring business manager of the Sharon City School District; and Julee McCamey of Elm Street, a home heat credit manager/administrative assistant for Frenz Petroleum.
Because there are only three candidates, council won't schedule a special night for interviews but will question the applicants in open session at the start of its next work session at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Hoffman said.
Council will then attempt to make the appointment at its regular meeting immediately after the work session, he said.
The appointment will stand until the next municipal election, expiring in January 2006.
