Widow sues police
PITTSBURGH (AP) -- The widow of man found frozen to death in the woods near his home has sued a township, its police department and two officers, contending authorities didn't properly care for her mentally ill husband who had wandered away from a veterans' hospital.
Darryl James Crosby Sr., 56, was found frozen to death Jan. 21 in a wooded area of Hempfield Township, about 25 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. An autopsy said he died of hypothermia.
In her lawsuit filed Thursday in federal court in Pittsburgh, Mardula Crosby contends two Penn Township police officers should have brought her husband home on Jan. 17, despite his requests to finish walking home in 10-degree weather. The lawsuit contends the officers knew her husband had mental problems.
Penn Township Manager Bruce Light declined to comment on the lawsuit.
