NEW YORK -- John Flaherty hit a grand slam, and Jose Contreras got through seven shaky innings to lead New York. After the erratic Contreras wasted a three-run lead, Flaherty singled home the go-ahead run and followed up with his third career slam in New York's 13th straight interleague win. Bernie Williams tripled and singled twice in his first three at-bats, reaching 2,000 hits for his career.
Tigers 7, Braves 4
DETROIT -- Held hitless by Russ Ortiz until the sixth inning, Detroit rallied for a victory over Atlanta. Carlos Pena hit a two-run double, and Dmitri Young singled in the go-ahead run for the Tigers, who took two of three in the series. Bobby Higginson singled leading off the sixth for Detroit's first hit against Ortiz, who wound up with a no-decision. Mike Maroth (5-3) pitched seven innings for the win.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Tony Batista homered twice and Sun-Woo Kim (3-2) pitched 41/3 perfect innings in relief of an injured Tomo Ohka, leading Montreal to doubleheader sweep. Zach Day (5-6) pitched a six-hitter in the opener for his second career shutout. Batista homered off Jimmy Gobble (3-4) leading off the second inning and added a two-run shot in the sixth for his 12th career multihomer game. In the opener, Brad Wilkerson homered and drove in three runs for the Expos. Jamey Carroll and Orlando Cabrera each had three of Montreal's 16 hits. Dennys Reyes (2-1) allowed 11 hits and five runs in 62/3 innings.
Red Sox 9, Padres 3
BOSTON -- Nomar Garciaparra's two-run double highlighted a five-run fifth inning, and Curt Schilling pitched Boston past San Diego. Manny Ramirez hit a long, two-run homer, and Pokey Reese had a solo shot on his 31st birthday for Boston, which has won four of five. David Ortiz matched a career high with four hits. Schilling (8-3) gave up two runs and six hits in seven innings. He walked two and struck out eight to raise his total to 81, three behind teammate Pedro Martinez for the AL lead.
Dodgers 6, Blue Jays 1
TORONTO -- Kazuhisa Ishii pitched eight sharp innings; Adrian Beltre and Juan Encarnacion hit consecutive homers, and Los Angeles ended a three-game skid with a victory over Toronto. Ishii (8-3) won his third straight start for the Dodgers, who salvaged the last game of the series after scoring just one run in the first two. Los Angeles had 14 hits in the finale after getting just 12 in the first two games.
Diamondbacks 3, Orioles 0
BALTIMORE -- Rookie Daniel Cabrera took a perfect game into the seventh inning, but Steve Finley hit a two-run homer and Arizona got six shutout innings from Casey Fossum in a victory over Baltimore. Cabrera (3-2) retired his first 18 batters. Fossum (1-4) allowed five hits and two walks in earning his first win in six starts.
Devil Rays 5, Giants 2
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Victor Zambrano took a no-hitter into the seventh inning against San Francisco, and Tampa Bay held on to win their first interleague series in nearly two years. Rocco Baldelli hit a three-run homer for the Devil Rays off Kirk Rueter (2-6).
Twins 3, Mets 2, 15 innings
MINNEAPOLIS -- Michael Ryan's one-out single in the 15th inning gave Minnesota a victory over the New York Mets, completing a three-game sweep. Luis Rivas beat out an infield single with one out against Ricky Bottalico (2-1), and Cristian Guzman moved him to third with single. Ryan hit the first pitch of his at-bat to end it.
Angels 5, Brewers 4
ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Jeff DaVanon capped a comeback from a four-run deficit with a go-ahead RBI single in the eighth inning, and Anaheim ended a five-game losing streak by beating Milwaukee. DaVanon's hit off Mike Adams came after Jose Guillen greeted Adams with an RBI single to tie it. The Angels had trailed 4-0 after three innings. Adams had just replaced Jeff Bennett (1-4), who started the eighth and walked the only two batters he faced.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
Cubs 12, Cardinals 3
CHICAGO -- Moises Alou hit a three-run homer, and Derrek Lee had a two-run shot as the Chicago Cubs tied the team's modern record with 11 hits in the fourth inning. Todd Walker hit a solo homer; Aramis Ramirez went 3-for-3 with a walk and three runs scored, and Carlos Zambrano pitched eight solid innings to give the Cubs a split of the four-game series.
