Search goes on for teenage boy

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The search was to resume this morning for a 16-year-old Grove City boy who is missing and may have drowned in the treacherous waters of Slippery Rock Creek near the Kennedy Mill Bridge in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County.
The victim, whose name wasn't being released by Pennsylvania State Police, was swimming with a 34-year-old adult and four other juveniles around 6 p.m. Wednesday, when he jumped into about 25 feet of water and began swimming. The others in the group lost sight of the boy as he swam about 40 feet downstream. The group was from George Junior Republic -- a juvenile detention facility in Grove City.
After a futile search by members of the group, fire and state police personnel were summoned. SCUBA divers from Shenango Township, Slippery Rock and Unionville fire departments searched but couldn't find the boy. The search was called off at 9 p.m. because of darkness and inclement weather, state police said.
Assisting in the search were the North Beaver and Portersville fire departments and Medevac Ambulance.
