FEDERAL CHARGES Grand jury indicts ex-president of company in asbestos removal
CLEVELAND -- A federal grand jury here has handed up indictments against a Boardman businessman and an Akron man.
The Akron man used a false name and Social Security number to open a checking account at an Austintown bank and produced counterfeit driver's licenses at an Austintown motel.
Press releases issued Wednesdsay by U.S. Attorney Gregory A. White, Northern District of Ohio, said Brett B. Pomeroy, 36, of Halbert Place, Boardman, former president of Nelson Bedding Products Inc., is alleged to have directed illegal removal of asbestos from the basement of the Nelson Bedding building in Youngstown and then failed to properly dispose of the material.
Scott R. Detloff, 38, of Akron, was indicted on eight counts of fraud, possession and negotiation of counterfeit securities, possession of false identification documents, production of false identification documents and mail theft.
The indictment alleges that Detloff used 10 counterfeit checks totaling more than $2,000 at various retailers in January 2004; attemped to open a checking account using a false name and Social Security number at First Place Bank, Austintown; produced counterfeit driver's licenses at an Austintown motel; had in his possession eight counterfeit Ohio driver's licenses and two Social Security cards; and stole outgoing mail from several residential and business mailboxes in Summit, Stark and Cuyahoga counties.
