COLUMBIANA CO. Internet sex cases go to grand jury
One of the two men who appeared in court is a chef in the Cleveland area.
EAST PALESTINE -- Two men arrested last month in an undercover Internet investigation by New Waterford police for soliciting sex from who they thought were teen girls will have their cases heard by a Columbiana County grand jury.
Judge Mark Frost of Columbiana County Municipal Court continued bond for Michael Rice, 45, of Galion, at $250,000 for each of three charges.
He is charged with attempted sexual conduct with a minor, importuning, and disseminating material harmful to juveniles.
Judge Frost granted bond of $10,000 cash or surety for Mark Jasinski, 45, of Wellington. Jasinski posted the bond and is now out of jail. He faces charges of importuning and attempted sexual conduct with a minor.
Both Jasinski and Rice appeared Tuesday. Jasinski waived his right to a preliminary hearing and had his case bound over to the grand jury.
Rice's preliminary hearing began Tuesday and ended Wednesday, with the judge determining there was enough evidence to have his case heard by the grand jury.
Jasinski is the ninth man arrested since Jan. 30 in the Internet sting; Rice is the eighth.
Getting caught
Police arrested Rice on May 19. Believing he was chatting with a 15-year-old girl, Rice made arrangements to meet in New Waterford, said Dan Haueter, New Waterford police chief. Haueter said Rice wanted to have sex and planned to spend the night.
Police arrested Jasinski around 10:30 p.m. May 29 after Haueter chatted online with him May 28, posing as a 14-year-old girl in an Internet chat room called "Young Girls Wanting an Adult Man."
Haueter said Jasinski is a chef in the Cleveland area. Jasinski wanted to "give and receive oral sex," the chief said.
Others arrested on similar charges are William Love, 63, of Twinsburg; Michael Black, 54, of Taylorsville, Ky.; Michael Resann, 45, of Goshen, Ind.; Lonzo Stover, 38, of Attica, Ohio; Gary L. Myers, 60, of Beaver, Pa.; Rickey Turner, 53, of Thornville, Ohio; and Patrick Cumston, 55, of Vinton.
