BASKETBALL Groves named Mooney coach
YOUNGSTOWN -- Scott Groves was named head boys basketball coach at Cardinal Mooney on Wednesday
Groves, 33, who has been head boys basketball coach at Bristol since 2000, replaces Nick Bellino, who retired after this season.
"I welcome the challenge offered by heading the Mooney program and adding to its history of success," Groves said.
Groves has coached for 11 years and has five years of head coaching experience. He has been named Trumbull County coach of the year four times and conference coach of the year three times.
In 2001 he was named district coach of the year and coached Division IV player of the year, John King. His teams went 71-21, reaching the state semifinals in 2002.
Groves has won district titles two of the past three years and three conference championships in the last four years.
"His reputation as a leader and innovator is sure to provide our young players with challenges and opportunities to succeed," said Mooney principal Sr. Jane Marie Kudlacz, H.M.
Groves, who is the service manager for Greenwood Chevrolet in Hubbard, lives in Brookfield with his wife, Suzanne, and their daughter, Chloe.
