At Northeast Ohio Polka Fest, entertainment, food will abound

GENEVA-ON-THE-LAKE -- Bands that are from the Mahoning Valley or have performed around Youngstown will be featured at Northeast Ohio Polka Fest, which will be Saturday and Sunday at Old Firehouse Winery, 5499 Lake Road.
Festival entertainment is coordinated by Val Pawlowski, whose weekly polka music show is broadcast from 6 to 11 a.m. Saturdays on WKTX-AM 830 of Cortland.
Making its first appearance at this festival will be Frank Stanger Band, which also will perform July 11 at Slovenefest in SNPJ, Pa.
Stanger's band will perform Saturday, as will Eddie Rodick Band. Rodick plays occasionally at Avon Oaks Ballroom in Girard.
When those bands take breaks, Mahoning Valley Button Box Club will perform.
Music continues on Sunday with George Staiduhar Band in the afternoon and Del Sinchak Band in the evening. Staiduhar also will be at Slovenefest next month and is scheduled to appear twice this summer at Cascade Park Dance Hall in New Castle, Pa. The Grammy-nominated Del Sinchak band originates in Youngstown and performs at Avon Oaks and Kuzman's, also in Girard.
Two-day admission fee is $3, and children ages 12 and under are admitted free. The winery's Firehouse Grill will sell ethnic foods, including kielbasa and pirogi.
