Police investigate death
PULASKI, Pa. -- State police are investigating the death of a 21-year-old Pulaski Township man. Joshua E. Rudzik was found unconscious in his Landau Drive home around 8 a.m. Saturday and pronounced dead at 9:12 a.m. that day in Jameson Hospital's emergency room. Lab results and the cause of death are pending after an autopsy, which was performed Saturday at Ellwood City Hospital by Dr. Karl Williams, forensic pathologist.
Flood assistance
LISBON -- Columbiana County residents and business people who had losses related to last month's storms and flooding can get help applying for assistance at a disaster recovery center at Columbiana High School, 700 Columbiana-Waterford Road, Columbiana. Center hours will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Wednesday. Representatives of the federal, state and county emergency management agencies will be available at the school to help victims apply for financial assistance. Applications also may be obtained by calling (800) 621-3362 between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. seven days a week until further notice.
Gunshots fired
FARRELL, Pa. -- Police said gunshots fired from a vehicle on Emerson Avenue shortly before 9 a.m. Tuesday apparently weren't directed at anyone. Police Chief Riley Smoot said it appears that someone was firing a .45-caliber weapon into the air as the vehicle drove in the 300 block of Emerson Avenue. Police recovered four spent casings but could find no bullet holes in any walls or buildings, he said. A person who heard the shots dropped to the ground and didn't see which way the vehicle went, Smoot said. The vehicle is believed to be a burgundy SUV, perhaps a Ford, and carried at least two men, the chief said.
Cash stolen in break-in
JAMESTOWN, Pa. -- State police said someone broke into the office of Shenango Valley Sand & amp; Gravel on Shine Road in Greene Township and stole $130 in cash between 4 p.m. Monday and 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Illegal transport
SHARON, Pa. -- A California man has been indicted on a charge of transporting illegal aliens through Mercer County. Eliseo Medina-Dimas, 52, of Los Angeles was indicted Tuesday by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh. He is accused of transporting 15 illegal Mexican aliens through the United States. Their trip apparently ended when the vehicle in which they were riding was stopped by state police in Mercer County on May 4. Police had no report available this morning on the traffic stop. Medina-Dimas remains in federal custody.
July meeting changes
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The July meeting of New Wilmington Borough Council has been changed to 7:30 p.m. July 6. The regular meeting date, July 5, conflicts with the Independence Day observance.
