MINERAL RIDGE -- The monthly meeting of the Weathersfield Township Zoning Commission has been canceled for tonight.
Flags bought by donations
MINERAL RIDGE -- Weathersfield Township trustees approved donations of $100 from the Mineral Ridge VFW Post and $50 from the Girard American Legion. The donations were used to buy U.S. flags that were placed on the graves of veterans at Kerr and Welsh Hill cemeteries in the township for the recent Memorial Day observance.

MINERAL RIDGE -- Weathersfield Police Chief Joseph Consiglio is warning local residents to be aware that agencies are complaining to his office that scam artists are offering to do work on people's homes for cheap prices and then not doing the work. Consiglio cautioned senior citizens, especially, from falling for the scam if they are approached for paving or roofing work. A group called "The Travelers" from South Carolina is reportedly in the area, promising a lot to customers, but doing nothing. He asked that residents approached by suspicious contractors contact the police department to check on the individuals, or to contact the Better Business Bureau.

VA clinics will be closedFriday to respect Reagan
YOUNGSTOWN -- In respect of former President Reagan, and in accord with the executive order issued by President Bush, the Department of Veterans Affairs Outpatient Clinic on Belmont Avenue, VA clinics throughout Northeast Ohio, and nonemergency outpatient services at Wade Park and Brecksville will be closed Friday. The urgent care center at Wade Park will remain open. Veterans with scheduled appointments for June 11 will be notified of a rescheduled appointment. Veterans also may call their VA clinic to arrange a new appointment date.
Callers provide tips,leading to woman's arrest
YOUNGSTOWN -- Mona E. Williams, who was featured Monday in The Vindicator as wanted by the U.S. Marshals fugitive task force, was arrested Tuesday afternoon at a house on McGuffey Road. Deputy Marshal Dean Michael said tips from callers who saw the newspaper led to the arrest. Williams, 41, of Fairmont Avenue, faces charges of receiving stolen property, forgery (two counts), drug paraphernalia and petty theft.
