HEALTH CARE Forum opens cancer center in Boardman

The cancer center is part of a $15 million expansion at Beeghly Medical Park.
BOARDMAN -- Forum Health Western Reserve Care System's new $3 million CancerCare Center opened Monday.
The opening of the $3 million facility at Beeghly Medical Park, Building A, 6505 Market St., did not lessen the cancer care and services available at other Forum Health facilities such as Northside Medical Center in Youngstown and Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren, said John Gonda, Forum Health spokesman.
The investment improves patient access for residents in Mahoning and Columbiana counties and western Pennsylvania, and allows Forum Health to meet the needs of its patients for many years to come, Gonda said.
What's offered
Services include state-of-the-art external radiation treatment equipment that delivers more precise radiation beams to the cancerous tissue while shielding healthy tissue from damage; on-site physicians for patient visits and consultations; and support services for research, psychological and social services, educational and nutritional issues.
The center is part of $15 million expansion at Beeghly Medical Park, which includes childbirth and nursery services, and is part of Forum Health's $100 million master facilities plan, which involves expanding facilities and services at Beeghly, Northside and TMH, Gonda added.
Other improvements
Plans for Northside include an addition to house Tod Children's Hospital and an expanded heart hospital; a new hospital entrance; renovation and expansion of the emergency, diagnostic imaging, radiology, nuclear medicine, ultrasound and MRI departments; relocation and renovation of the noninvasive cardiology unit adjacent to the new heart hospital; and relocation and renovation of the medical/family/patient library, and pharmacy and youth services.
Plans for TMH include expansion of radiation oncology, the heart hospital, trauma center and emergency department.
Hours for the CancerCare Center at Beeghly are 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The telephone number is (330) 884-2050. Arlee Session is the clinical executive over oncology services.
