WESTERN PA. Wanted in sexual assaults, fugitive remains at large
A man identifying himself as Celestine had visited the YMCA numerous times.
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- Police say they believe that a fugitive they chased out of the Shenango Valley on Thursday came back Friday and stole a car.
Trevone Celestine, 23, of Newport News, Va., was chased from Sharon into Brookfield Township around 9 a.m. Thursday after police were called to the F.H. Buhl Club to investigate the theft of a wallet from a gym locker.
Celestine was identified as the suspect and fled the parking lot in a white van, which police chased until it ran into a ditch on Ohio Route 82.
Celestine was taken to Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren for treatment after he said he was injured in the accident. He managed to escape from the hospital and remained at large.
Police said Celestine was driving a van stolen in Virginia and is wanted as a fugitive in that state on aggravated sexual assault charges. Police said he is a registered Megan's Law offender and a parole absconder on another aggravated sexual assault charge in Virginia.
Think he came back
Authorities don't know why he first came to the Shenango Valley, but Hermitage police said they think he came back again Friday morning.
They suspect he stole a car from the YMCA on North Hermitage Road Friday morning, leaving a bicycle behind.
Police said a man identifying himself as Celestine has visited the YMCA several times over the past two weeks, inquiring about securing financial aid.
That same man came back to the YMCA sometime Thursday before the chase in Sharon and paid $26 down on a YMCA membership, police said.
They were at a loss to explain why Celestine might come back into the Shenango Valley after Thursday's chase but noted the description of the car theft suspect matches that of Celestine.
The missing car is a white Toyota Camry bearing Pennsylvania registration.
