The Workmans observe golden event with dinner, cruise and renewal of vows
XLOWELLVILLE -- Retired Master Sgt. and Mrs. Carl E. Workman Sr., 1333 S. Hubbard Road, were guests of honor during a surprise party held in honor of their 50th wedding anniversary.
The event, held May 1 at Argus Lodge Park in Canfield, was hosted by the couple's children and spouses, Dr. Rosemarie and Marc Parks of Canfield; Elizabeth "Libby" Colvin of Austell, Ga.; and Lt. Col. Carl Jr. and Eileen Workman of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
The couple were also honored during a Mass held May 2 at St. Elizabeth Church in Campbell, where they are members and sing in the choir. Mr. Workman also is a Eucharistic minister and a cantor. They are members of the Infant Jesus of Prague Guild.
They will attend the Diocesan Wedding Anniversary Celebration June 13 at St. Columba Cathedral, Youngstown, and renew their wedding vows.
The couple also celebrated the occasion during a recent eastern Caribbean cruise. An anniversary dinner took place aboard ship.
The former Marian Trevis and Mr. Workman were married May 1, 1954, at the former St. Joseph Church in Youngstown.
Mr. Workman retired from the U.S. Air Force in July 1973 after 21 years of service with overseas assignments in Okinawa, Japan; Labrador; and Southeast Asia.
He was the avionics instructor supervisor at Chanute Air Force Base, Rantoul, Ill., when he retired. He earned bachelor and graduate degrees from Kent State University, taught at Choffin Career Center, Youngstown, and was the trade and industrial and health occupations supervisor at Columbiana County Career Center, Lisbon. Mr. Workman was the state T & amp;I supervisor and retired from Ohio State University in Columbus.
He is employed part time as a teacher educator at Kent State University and is the faculty adviser for Iota Lambda Sigma honorary vocational society.
Mr. Workman also is a member of Youngstown Men's Cursillo 32, the American Legion and other organizations.
Mrs. Workman worked in the material control office at General Fireproofing Co., Youngstown, was employed by the Southland Corp., Texas, and was a cashier in the dining hall at Perrin Air Force Base in Texas and Chanute Air Force Base. She is an election judge for Mahoning County Board of Elections.
Mrs. Workman taught Confraternity of Christian Doctrine classes for 18 years and teaches CCD classes for Catholic churches in Campbell.
She is involved with the Christ Renews His Parish Program, is a member of Youngstown Cursillo 31 and a volunteer with other organizations.
The family includes seven grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.
