COLUMBUS -- Boardman senior Mark Lipinsky walked off the track, stared at the results board and, when he saw his time, pumped his fist and yelled "Yes!"
Then he poured a cup of water on his head, smiled and sat down to rest his sore feet.
For the second straight year, Lipinsky placed third in the 110-meter hurdles, running a school-record 13.96 at Saturday's Division I state meet at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
Cleveland Glenville senior Ted Ginn, an Ohio State football recruit, won the event in a state-record time of 13.40.
"I got out of the blocks really well," Lipinsky, who has run with a cyst on his foot for the past month, said. "I was floating a little bit yesterday and I knew I needed to get it down. So I just tightened the screws and Ted pulled me right along."
Lipinsky will have foot surgery in the summer, but he plans on running in next week's Midwest Meet of Champions and the outdoor nationals.
"I just want to keep breaking records," he said.
Fitch sophomore Sam Cassano placed third in the discus. He was the only non-senior in the top four.
"He's pleased with third, but he also left hungry for accomplishing more in the future," said Fitch coach Rich Kempe. "He wants to go on to bigger and better things."
Girls
Canfield senior Emily Wollet placed fourth in the 400 after finishing seventh in the event last season.
"I wanted to get in the top four and I was in fifth with about 100 meters left," she said. "I was like, there's no way I'm going to get fifth. If you have a chance of getting fourth or third, you might as well lay it all out since it's the last time you're going to run."
Boardman junior Jessica Moore placed sixth in the 800 and her teammate, senior Brittany Durkin, took 11th in the 1600.
