ASHLAND -- Erin Faulkner struck out 11 in a three-hitter, pitching Wheelersburg High to its first state softball championship game with a 2-1 win over Archbold in the Division III semifinals Thursday.
Faulkner (21-4) didn't allow a run until Britt Sevey's RBI double with none out in the bottom of the sixth. With the tying run at third, Faulkner retired the next three hitters to get out of the jam and then tossed a perfect seventh to finish her complete game.
Wheelersburg (25-5) scored on Ericka Faulkner's RBI single in the first and Brandi Etterling's sacrifice fly in the sixth.
Kendra Stahl (19-8) allowed two runs on four hits, walked four and struck out six in seven innings for Archbold (23-8).
Gibsonburg 3, Strasburg-Franklin 0
ASHLAND -- Ali Warren pitched a two-hitter and three-time defending champion Gibsonburg (25-6) scored three times in the bottom the sixth inning to beat Strasburg-Franklin in the Div. IV semifinals.
Warren (24-6) struck out nine, walked one and didn't allow a runner to get past second base. Gibsonburg scored on Julie Beaschler's RBI single, a wild pitch and Mandy Sleeks' sacrifice fly.
Danielle Zeigler (22-3) allowed three runs on three hits in six innings for Strasburg-Franklin (25-3). Lisa Miller singled and Ashlee Locker doubled for the Tigers' only hits.
Crestline 6, Maria Stein Marion 0
ASHLAND -- Meghan Ronk came within her own error and a hit batter of tossing a perfect game, and Crestline defeated Maria Stein Marion Local to advance to the Div. IV title game.
Ronk (17-2) struck out nine in her no-hitter and faced the minimum 21 batters because of two base-running errors by Marion Local (17-11).
Jennifer Rose was tagged out at first after Ronk dropped her popup in the second. Lynn Hartke reached in the fourth when she was hit by a pitch, but got called out for leaving first base early while attempting to steal.
