Camps canceled

Camps canceled
WARREN -- The girls basketball camps at Warren G. Harding High School have been canceled.
Harding Principal William E. Mullane said he isn't sure of the reasons Athletic Director Paul Trina opted to cancel the basketball camp. But the camp was run by David Jenkins, who may not be ready to come back to work.
The coach's wife was found dead in a closet in their home last month, and preliminary reports point to strangulation. Police are investigating, and there have been no arrests.
Trina has been running the open gyms and other activities that Jenkins had conducted.
The boys basketball camps run by Steve Arnold have not been canceled.
Decision appealed
CORTLAND -- WAE Corp. is appealing a decision by the city's planning, building and zoning commission that blocks the company from building condominiums on state Route 305, in front of the Shepherd's Hill development.
A proposal by the company, owned by developer Anthony Petrocco, to zone about three acres to "multifamily residential" was rejected by the zoning commission last month. Several Shepherd's Hill residents spoke against the WAE Corp. proposal.
WAE Corp.'s appeal will come before the board of zoning appeals at 6 p.m. June 23 in the city administration building.
This land affected by WAE Corp.'s request is not covered under a separate petition by residents of two streets in the development, Anthony Circle and Laura Lane, to zone their streets for single family homes only.
That petition was approved by the zoning commission and is expected to go directly to city council. A hearing before council is scheduled for July 19, service director Donald Wittman said.
