Cavalier sales slow downin car's final model year
YOUNGSTOWN -- Sales of the Chevrolet Cavalier are down in its final model year.
General Motors reported Wednesday that it sold 17,477 Cavaliers in the United States in May, which was off 26 percent from the amount sold in May 2003. For the first five months of this year, it has sold 84,755 Cavaliers, which is down 10 percent compared with the same period last year.
GM sold 2,179 Pontiac Sunfires last month, which was down 42 percent from May 2003. Production has stopped on Sunfires. The Cavalier and Sunfire are made at GM's Lordstown complex.
Overall, May was GM's best sales month this year. Sales of light trucks, which includes minivans, pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles, were up 11 percent, while car sales were flat.
