Officials issue reminder about maintaining lawns
The township is looking to move its administrative offices.
NORTH LIMA -- Beaver Township officials are asking property owners to remember to maintain their lawns.
Michelle Swope, township zoning inspector, said at Tuesday night's trustees meeting that some residents and business owners have not been keeping their grass cut. She said she will be sending out letters asking them to comply with the request.
Trustees also hired Andrew Yokum as an emergency medical technician and firefighter effective immediately.
The township is looking into moving its administrative office because trustees are concerned the township is outgrowing its location on South Avenue.
At a recent meeting, trustees agreed to pay Julius Tareshawty, a Boardman-based architect, $60 an hour to find an appropriate site.
Previous discussion
Earlier this year, trustees discussed building a facility behind the township's safety building on West South Range Road. Because the land likely was strip-mined several years ago, however, officials were concerned the seven-acre area might not be suitable for building.
"We just need to see whether we can build there and what we would need to do to have our building and a parking area there," explained Trustee Larry Wehr.
Wehr said the township is concerned about the cost of building, but would like to consider whether it would be in everyone's best interest to build a township-owned complex, or to continue renting space.
The township pays roughly $1,200 a month to rent its current office and has been there about six years.
"We're just exploring our options," Wehr said. "We're looking to do what is best and most cost-effective for the township and our residents."
The trustees said they will continue looking into various options over the next several months.
