Downtown project needs volunteers

YOUNGSTOWN -- Volunteers and contributions still are needed for Streetscape 2004, the downtown beautification project scheduled from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.
The rain date is Sunday, from 8 a.m. to noon.
An estimated 200 to 250 volunteers will meet at the parking lot between Powers Auditorium and the George V. Voinovich Government Center on West Federal Street.
Volunteers for the seventh annual event will remove debris, trim, plant flowers and shrubs and mulch planted areas.
Focus areas will include the West Federal Street median, the John Young Memorials, the Front Street-South Avenue intersection and city hall.
Streetscape has raised more than $14,000 in contributions and is seeking additional grants.
Others around the city are to join Streetscape on Saturday. There will be cleanups and landscaping projects the same day done by groups including Youngstown State University, the Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority, Fifth Avenue Boulevard Neighbors and the Wick Park Conversation Group.
