An almost unrecognizable Charlize Theron won an Oscar and a Golden Globe for her portrayal of real-life serial killer Aileen Carol Wuornos, a prostitute guilty of murdering at least seven men, in "Monster."
The critically acclaimed movie comes to DVD today for $19.95 and co-stars Christina Ricci as Theron's young love interest.
A version of the 2003 movie also is available packaged with Columbia TriStar's 2003 documentary "Aileen: Life and Death of a Serial Killer" for $39.95.
Post movie critic Desson Thomson wrote,
"'Serial Killer' shows us how eerily close Theron's performance was to capturing the belligerent, snaggle-toothed Wuornos." Thomson suggests "Monster" answers questions and makes "creative assertions" that the documentary does not.
Wuornos' life included many criminal acts and a teen-age pregnancy. The R-rated movie focuses on her life in Florida in the early 1990s, when she began murdering her clients. She was executed in Florida in 2002.
